Winter News & Events

Hey all!!

We had a blast this Sunday playing a very exciting game of Razzle, worshiping together, and hearing what the Bible says about giving thanks to God in good times and in bad.

What a great group of students we have at High Tide these days! A lot of our students are brand new this year and that brings such great energy and fun!

Next weekend we will have a bucket set out for students to give toward our Emergency Haiti Cholera Relief. Kids can sponsor an entire family for just $15. This money will buy a family all the sanitizing materials they need to help prevent the spread of this horrific disease. Be creative & raise as much as you can this week!!

Over the next few weeks there are some dates you need to remember so here they are...

  • This weekend we WILL have Low Tide @ 5 and High Tide @ 6:30 so enjoy your Thanksgiving and bring your $15 for HAITI
  • Sunday, December 5th our missionary to Kenya, Molly Bail, will be joining us to talk with our students about our compassion efforts overseas and how students can get more involved!
  • Friday, December 10th is our Christmas OrangeXplosion and all families are invited. We will be having a really hilarious presentation of the Christmas story plus an awesome after party!!
  • Sunday, December 19th is the High Tide UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER CHRISTMAS PARTY immediately following the last Sara Groves Concert. Party will take place from 7:30-8pm in Studio 4:12. We'll have music, games, and prizes for the ugliest Christmas sweater of course!!
  • Christmas Eve Services @ 5 & 6:30 pm for the whole family
  • NO SERVICES FOR ADULTS OR KIDS OR STUDENTS ON SATURDAY, DEC 25TH OR SUNDAY, DEC 26TH
  • We will resume Low & High Tide on Sunday, January 2nd 2011

Hey All!!

Check out the news...

  1. LOW TIDE MEETS HIGH TIDE - beginning October 10th, we will be launching something called "low tide". Basically we're going to begin youth group at 5pm from then on instead of 6:30. Why? Mostly because we want the extra hour to do more fun stuff like football, volleyball, dodge ball, capture the flag...you know, things we don't normally have time to do. Also, from 5-6:30 there will be snacks for sale in Faye's Cafe, music to listen to, and plenty of time to catch up with the people you haven't seen in a week.
  2. CALLING ALL 6TH GRADERS - beginning October 10th we are expanding our ministry to include students in the 6th grade. They are welcome to attend any and all High Tide events from this point on. Yea!
  3. DID SOMEONE SAY LOCK IN - Yes, you heard right...its that time of year again. See below for important dates...
  • Sunday, October 31st we will still have low & High Tide but with a Halloween twist - details are under wraps right now but know this...costumes will be involved
  • Friday, November 12th is our 2010 Lock In. We will be staying up all night in the name of fun. Starts @ 8pm on Friday and ends at 7 am on Saturday morning. Cost is $5 for pizza and snacks!!
  • Sunday, December 19th will be our UGLY SWEATER CHRISTMAS PARTAY - We'll have sweater judging, yule tide games, and plenty of food and music. Bring your friends & a donation for Springs of Hope Kenya!! Last year we raised enough money for a student uniform and shoes...this year I'm thinking - tuition for a year!! Anyone with me??

BigStuf

BigStuf 2010 is JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!

Make plans NOW to send your student to our 2010 summer trip called BigStuf!
Remember, a $50 deposit is due on Sunday, March 28th to reserve your spot.
This trip has been one of the highlights of my time at Cypress. It is
combination of high-energy worship, world-class communicators, and community
building experiences that will change the life of your student forever. But
that's just my opinion. Here's what some of the kids who went last year had
to say about it...

"Eye opening teachings, rocking worship, amazingly spiritual experience, and
fun pranking our leaders." - boy, high school senior

"Life-changing. I have never felt the Lord's presence in my life like I did
while we were there. It got me back in touch with the reason I follow Jesus
Christ." girl, high school senior

"It was awesome! You have thousands of students praising God and the best
teachers in America and it definitely stirs up something in you that if you
put yourself with the right people and spend time with God the flame will
keep burning!" - boy, high school senior

Total cost of the trip is $400...here is your cost breakdown...

April 4th (Easter SUNDAY) - $50 deposit to save your spot

May 16th - $250 to finalize registration

July 19th (DEPARTURE DAY) - $100 for meals during the trip + anything additional you'd like for spending money

Sunday Night Rewind

Sunday night was the 2nd week of THE Cause. There are a lot of causes to get excited about these days but if we forget THE Cause of Christ nothing else matters! Don't forget to be challenging yourself this week to step outside your comfort zone and reach out to the people God has placed in your life! All it takes is one step, one question, one act of kindness to open the door to a relationship that might impact someone's eternity!

In addition to all of that we played a game I won't even bother explaining...I'll let the pics do all the talking...

Last Friday Film Series (2/28)

Hello Everyone,

This month's "Film that makes you say hmmm..." will be Rob Bell's "Everything is Spiritual". To ensure that we have lots of time for discussion afterwards (you know, before you all pile in your cars and head to Jimmy John's prior to High Tide), we will be starting the film promptly at 4pm. So be extra spiritual and don't be late.

Remember, that's Sunday, February 28th, in Studio 4:12 at 4pm (sharp). See you there!

Who knew?

I'm still not sure if someone is pulling my leg or not, but I've recently been told that the NFL season doesn't end when the Steelers lose. Apparently they keep playing the season despite the absence of the world's greatest football team and lots of people get together to watch. Seems pointless to me, but I guess any reason to have a party is a good one, so if you want to watch these two nobody teams play what apparently is an important game to those fans who haven't experienced 6 super bowl championship seasons, then come join us at the church at 6pm and bring a snack or drink to share. I'll see you all there (assuming, that is, that this isn't some elaborate ruse that Jan dreamed up to get me to go to the church when high tide is cancelled - I mean, did you see those ridiculous looking horse pictures she posted below - who dey?)

Super Bowl Bash

Hey all!!

You're invited to the High Tide (go colts) annual Super Bowl Bash this Sunday night (go colts) at 6pm in the main auditorium (go colts)...

We're asking that (go colts) everyone bring something to eat (go colts). Chips or a 2 liter or something like that...

Bring some friends (go colts) and wear your team colors (go colts)!

Films that make you say hmmm...

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to pass along the trailer for our next "deep" film viewing. If you haven't heard, we are planning on making these viewings a once-a-month occurence in response to the cool feedback we got from "Collision" and "To Save A Life". So bring your thinking caps and join us in the Studio 4:12 conference room this Sunday at 4pm.

Hope to see you there!

Collision Preview

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to pass along the trailer to the "Collision" movie that we will be screening this Sunday @ 4pm in the 4:12 conference room. It should make for some interesting discussion afterward. If you, or someone you know, have had doubts about the validity of Christianity or if you are always finding yourself struggling to defend your faith against atheism, you won't want to miss this. Hope to see you all there...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year High Tide and families!

I am so looking forward to diving into ministry with all of you this year. 2010 promises to be a life-changing year for the student ministries at Cypress Meadows and I'm excited to experience it with such a great group of families!

Here are a couple of dates to get us started...

  • Saturday, January 16th we will be meeting at the church at 3pm to carpool over to the St. Pete Times Forum to attend Winter Jam (a huge concert with multiple Christian artists). Cost is $10. Concert starts at 6 but being first come first serve we want to get there EARLY!
  • Sunday, January 17th Chuck and Huebner will be showing a film called Collision at 4pm in Studio 4:12. "COLLISION carves a new path in documentary film-making as it pits leading atheist, political journalist and bestselling author Christopher Hitchens, against fellow author, satirist and evangelical theologian Douglas Wilson as they go on the road to exchange blows over the question: "Is Christianity Good for the World?"." After the film Chuck and Huebner will lead students in a discussion about the debate. Should be interesting! This is a free event.
  • Monday, January 18th (MLK Day) we will have our coffee hang out time at the Main Street Starbucks at 5pm. At 6pm we will carpool back to the church for Bible Study which will end at 7:30. Bring some money for coffee & your Bible!
  • Friday, January 22nd we will be going as a group to watch the movie, "To Save A Life". This is a small indie film about the real life issues that teenagers face...looks awesome. Time and Location TBA.

There's a lot going on this month so keep checking the blog for updates! And remember text, call or email me ANYTIME for more information and to get answers to questions you might have:)
